Bereavement

Bereavement is the experience we go through when someone close to us dies. Bereavement impacts us in a variety of ways and the way we experience it changes over time. Often, we only think of the emotional impact of bereavement – feeling sad, confused, angry, overwhelmed, guilty or numb – but bereavement also affects us physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.

No two bereavement experiences are the same, because no two relationships are the same. It’s very common to grieve different relationships differently, or to grieve in a way that is different to the people around you.

Having worked across youth and adult grief services, I have supported clients who are bereaved in a range of circumstances, including from cancer and life-limiting illnesses, suicide, and homicide. While coming to bereavement counselling can feel scary or overwhelming, it is a safe and supportive space to express your grief.
